Our talented client Laughter Percussion is changing lives, by combining the healing powers of laughter and music.
Based in Kalgoorlie in WA, Laughter Percussion founder Ras Banamungu runs an NDIS approved community program, which creates positive, safe and meaningful experiences for attendees.
As an experienced musician, Ras has seen firsthand the life-changing impact of music, and draws on his own experience to create an inspiring experience of happiness for all ages and abilities with Laughter Percussion.
Laughter therapy has been shown to have many positive benefits – helping with conditions including stress, fatigue and anxiety, as well as hypertension, asthma, chronic pain, arthritis, mental illness and addiction. It promotes the production of endorphins and endogenous opiates, which are the body’s own morphine-like painkillers, and also boosts our body’s own immune system.
“My practice brings together laughter and music, and helps people to release tension, and enjoy shared experiences which build stronger communities. The impacts are powerful,” says Ras.
“Laughter is good for everyone and it’s contagious. Sometimes people are a bit unsure when they first arrive, but it doesn’t take long for them to relax into the experience and let go of their worries. Combining laughter with the power of percussion has a positive impact on both body and mind.”
The movement of percussion and the power of laughter means we can release negative feelings, enjoy a form of self-expression, and remove negative emotions which can cause energy blockages in the body.
Ras runs workshops in WA and is also looking at options to deliver his programmes online as awareness and interest grows in his unique offering.
“I’m excited to share the powerful combination of music and laughter therapy with as many people as possible, and thanks to Phuong at Connect My Community, I can now extend my work with NDIS participants and make an even bigger impact,” says Ras.
