The business of caring

When Karen Carpinteri, founder of Kac Care retired a few years ago, she quickly realised she wasn’t completely ready to give up on the caring work she’d been doing: “I still wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, and so initially I signed up for 1.5 hours per week of providing care and support.”

This quickly evolved into supporting a client who needed 24/7 care, and as word got around of Karen’s skills and her client-focused problem solving approach, her business grew.

Now, less than three years later, Karen’s business Kac Care employs 20 people, and interest in their services continues to grow, boosted by their decision to become registered as NDIS providers this year, supported by Connect My Community Consultancy.

Kac Care is based in the Swan Hill region in Victoria, servicing clients from as far afield as Bendigo and Echuca, and responding to a growing need for considerate carers to provide medical, caring, disability support, aged care and cleaning services to a wide range of people.

“We provide a broad range of services – from respite care for foster carers, to in-home aged care support, disability support services, and more. It’s a real mix, and we love coming up with solutions to provide better care and quality of life to the people we work with,” says Karen.

As well as providing a network of care and support, Kac Care’s offices are a centre of care for their clients – from a place to host meetings and events, to a safe and calming space when people need to regroup and reset.

“They come here to talk, they come here to connect, and sometimes they come in because they just need a place for a bit of a time out. They know this is a safe place where they’re always welcome.”

Karen says she’s excited to become fully registered with the NDIS, and further grow awareness of Kac Care and the quality services they’re providing:

“It’s exciting to be in this space, but the NDIS process is really complex. We absolutely couldn’t have done it without the support of Phuong at Connect My Community, she’s been amazing.”
